Two ways to make Claude read aloud

Claude answers can be short, but the useful ones are often long: explanations, tradeoffs, edits, plans, and research notes. ArticleAudio supports both whole-response read aloud and selected-text read aloud, so you do not have to treat every Claude answer the same way.

Whole response

Streaming vs Classic mode

ArticleAudio gives you two listening modes, and you can configure your default mode in settings. Streaming starts almost instantly, while generating audio in Classic mode takes a few seconds.

For large Claude responses or big selected blocks, ArticleAudio can automatically fall back to Classic mode regardless of your setting, because full controls are more convenient for long audio.

Streaming mode starts fast

Streaming is the default mode. It is best for short selections, quick checks, and Claude responses you want to hear within a few seconds.

Classic mode gives fuller controls

Classic mode is better for longer text because you get a progress bar, skip controls, playback speed, and a download option.

Four ways to start Claude audio

The orange response button is the fastest option when you want the entire answer. The existing selection tools are still there when you want more control.

A better way to review long Claude answers

This page is not just about adding audio to Claude. It is about choosing the right listening workflow for how you actually use Claude.

Review long Claude answers without staying glued to the screen

Claude is especially useful for long explanations, comparisons, writing feedback, and research synthesis. Audio turns those blocks of text into something you can review while walking, cooking, commuting, or resting your eyes.

Catch details you might skim past

Listening slows the page down in a good way. It helps you hear the structure of an argument, notice caveats, and absorb dense technical or strategic answers without rereading the same paragraph.

Tune the mode for the way you listen

Streaming is better for short answers because it starts quickly. Classic mode is better if you regularly listen to longer Claude responses and want seek, speed, and download controls.

Tips for listening to Claude responses

Wait until Claude finishes generating before listening, so the audio includes the full answer.

Use the response button for the whole answer and text selection for one passage.

Use Classic mode when you want to save or replay a longer response later.

If the response contains code, select the explanation around the code when that will sound more natural than reading symbols aloud.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get Claude to read aloud?

Install ArticleAudio, open claude.ai, then click the orange play button beside a Claude response. You can also highlight a specific sentence or paragraph and use the floating play button, Shift+Tab shortcut, or right-click menu.

Can Claude read responses out loud?

Claude does not give every desktop web response a simple built-in read-aloud button. ArticleAudio adds that workflow in your browser, so you can read full Claude responses aloud or listen to selected parts of a response.

Does Claude have a read-aloud feature?

Claude has voice features, but desktop web read-aloud controls for existing responses are limited compared with a dedicated text-to-speech workflow. ArticleAudio is built for that use case: click the response play button or select text and listen with playback controls.

Can I listen to a whole Claude response without selecting text?

Yes. ArticleAudio can add an orange play button next to Claude's response controls. Click it to listen to the full response without manually highlighting the text first.

Can I listen to only one paragraph from Claude?

Yes. Highlight the sentence, paragraph, or section you want to hear, then use the floating play button, Shift+Tab shortcut, or browser context menu. This is useful when Claude gives a long answer and you only need one part.

Does it work well with Claude's long-form responses?

Yes. ArticleAudio is designed for long text. Streaming mode is the default and starts quickly, but you can change the default mode in settings. For very large blocks of text, ArticleAudio can automatically fall back to Classic mode because seek, speed, and download controls are more convenient for long audio.

Can I use this while Claude is generating a response?

It is best to wait until Claude finishes generating. That way the response button or selected text includes the complete answer you want to hear.

Is there a limit on how much I can listen to?

The free tier includes 1,000 words. For unlimited listening to Claude responses and all other content, our premium plan at $3/month is a great value.
